About Dr. Andrew Newton

For more than three decades, Dr. Andrew Newton has provided mental health services to diverse groups of patients and community members. A respected psychiatrist, he has engaged both in clinical care and research working in different establishments. Dr. Andrew Newton manages his own private psychiatry practice where he focuses on providing care for patients with various conditions. In his private clinic, which has offices in Mount Carmel and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Dr. Newton provides outpatient recovery services in areas such as general adult psychiatry as well as pediatric and adolescent psychiatry. Other areas of specialization include addiction medicine and forensic/correctional psychiatry. Besides discharging duties at his psychiatry clinic, Dr. Newton has served as chief regional psychiatrist for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections since 2015. Dr. Andrew Newton has also served as resident physician-psychiatry at Thomas Jefferson University, where he completed his residency and was assigned full duties as a senior resident physician in a teaching hospital. He also worked in various divisions including in-patient, emergency, consultation and liaison, addiction, and forensics. While in school and during his career, Dr. Andrew Newton has been recognized multiple times for his outstanding performance. The awards he received include Chief Medical Directors Honors List 1989 for the Best Houseman 1988/1989. Others are 1984/1985 Gulf Oil Scholarship for the best student in clinical pharmacology, as well as the Dan Lieberman Prize for graduating resident with the best psychiatric writing (1998), Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. When he’s not working, Dr. Andrew Newton enjoys public speaking, especially to advise hospital staff and patient groups on mental health complications and how to manage them. His other interests include reading, traveling, automotive technology, and taking long walks.
